Setting up email forwarding

← Back to client help

Your support email should be an address on your own domain name. You set that up at your registrar, the company where you bought your domain, with email forwarding.

What forwarding does

Forwarding passes anything sent to the new address on to the inbox you already check. You don't need a new inbox or a new app. Customers write to an address with your business name in it, and the mail lands where you already read it.

How to set it up

  1. Sign in at your registrar.
  2. Open your domain's settings, and look for email forwarding.
  3. Add the new address, like support.
  4. Enter the inbox it should forward to.
  5. Save.
  6. Send a test email to the new address, and check that it arrives in your inbox.

Each registrar names these steps a little differently. If you can't find email forwarding, search your registrar's own help pages for it.

Showing the new address on your site

Your site shows an email address too. To show the new address there, send it through the change-request form: under what it says now, give the current email; under what it should say, give the new one. That's a content change, so it's free.

Before you send

Send the test email first. Only ask for the change once the new address delivers to your inbox.
